  2. New campaign to control speeding in our municipality

Throughout the week, the Local Police are stepping up surveillance on urban roads as part of the ‘Calmar el tráfico’ campaign, under the DGT’s initiative

Until Sunday 19 April, the Local Police are carrying out a campaign aimed at reducing the number of speed-related road accidents and their consequences.

For this reason, they are stepping up surveillance to monitor speeding by drivers on urban roads, thereby joining the operation currently being carried out by the DGT on the motorways.

“Controlling speed on urban roads is of vital importance because, in the event of a collision, it is there that the pedestrian’s survival depends,” says Councillor for Safety Raquel López.

The chance of surviving a collision is almost impossible if the vehicle is travelling at 80 kilometres per hour, whereas if it is travelling at 30 kilometres per hour, that probability increases by 90 per cent.

The Fuenlabrada Local Police campaign focuses on three distinct actions. Firstly, reviewing the signage indicating the speed limit throughout the municipality; secondly, carrying out speed checks on vehicles; and finally, analysing the data obtained from these checks, which are carried out using speed cameras at various points across the city.

This data will be used to carry out a study to assess the installation of new safety measures to improve traffic flow and road safety in our municipality.
