The Community of Madrid has increased the fee by almost 1.5 million euros

The Plenary Session has approved a budget amendment amounting to 1,472,488.01 euros due to the increase in the Fire Service Coverage Charge by the Community of Madrid. The Fuenlabrada Fire Station became part of the regional fire service in 2025.

The budget allocation initially planned for the 2026 financial year was calculated in accordance with the agreement signed with the Community of Madrid, at a rate of 30.94 euros per inhabitant, with a maximum cap of 100,000 inhabitants. Subsequently, the Autonomous Community unilaterally approved an increase in the rate applied to 35 euros per inhabitant and raised the population ceiling to 120,000 inhabitants.

This additional funding will be drawn from the cash surplus for general expenditure.

Furthermore, according to the increases announced and published in the press, in 2027 the cost of the levy will rise to 4.55 million and in 2028 to 5.25 million euros. This means that the increase in the amount the City Council would pay to the Regional Government from 2025 to 2028 would total 68 per cent.

The City Council signed an agreement with the Community of Madrid whereby the Fuenlabrada Fire Station was transferred to the regional fire service, thereby coming under the jurisdiction of the regional government. In this way, the Community assumed responsibility for staff and operating costs, as well as ownership of the infrastructure and all the service’s material resources.
