  2. Presentation of the SHARE project at the World Congress on Age-Friendly Cities and Communities

The SHARE project will be presented at the conference taking place today and tomorrow

Mayor Javier Ayala took part on Monday in the Mayors’ Forum, which was held as part of the World Congress on Age-Friendly Cities and Communities taking place in San Sebastián until 18 June. He did so as a representative of the cities that best implement policies for older people and presented the SHARE project as a best practice in the field of housing.

Under the slogan ‘Let’s transform together! A connected, equitable and sustainable world, adapted to all generations’, the event addresses issues such as social connection, digital inclusion, sustainability, participation and care in a context marked by increased longevity and demographic change.

“Fuenlabrada is presenting itself to government representatives, researchers, social organisations and experts from over 60 countries as a city that builds more inclusive, cohesive and friendly communities,” explained Javier Ayala, who wished to highlight the innovation represented by the SHARE project, which “seeks to find housing solutions for older people with the aim of extending their personal independence whilst also providing opportunities for young people to become independent”.

In addition to the mayor’s participation in the conference, the intergenerational project ‘Los mayores cuentan’ and the use of technology in care have been selected and presented as two examples of good practice by the council.

Fuenlabrada has been a member of the Age-Friendly Cities Network, an initiative launched by the WHO, since 2018.
