The mayor secured a commitment from the chairman of Adif at a meeting held yesterday     

Mayor Javier Ayala and Adif’s chairman, Pedro Marco de la Peña, held a meeting yesterday in the town to discuss renovation, improvement and integration works on the railway line as it passes through the town.

Javier Ayala thus secured a commitment from the rail infrastructure company to carry out refurbishment works and improve accessibility at La Serna station, as well as to build an underpass that will make it easier for residents to get about. 

This is a commitment the mayor has reiterated over recent years, which led the Fuenlabrada Town Council to approve a motion earlier this year calling not only for improvements to the C-5 line, but also for the approval and publication of a firm timetable with specific deadlines for the implementation of the planned investments, particularly at La Serna station.  

In this regard, Adif plans to commission an update to the design of the La Serna station project this coming autumn; RENFE has already been working on this project, which forms part of the improvement plan for Line C-5 of the Madrid Commuter Rail network. 

During the meeting, Javier Ayala and Pedro Marco de la Peña discussed the forthcoming signing of a collaboration agreement between the two parties for the redevelopment of La Serna station.

In addition, the two took a tour of Fuenlabrada to discuss the possible implementation of other improvement works linked to the railway line as it passes through the municipality.  

The mayor briefed him on one of the major projects Fuenlabrada is set to undertake: the Paseo del Tren. This involves the construction of a large pedestrian and cycle path that will span the railway line and link Plaza de la Constitución with the town centre. “An urban development project centred on the main station that will unite and bring cohesion to the city by bridging the gap created by the railway tracks,” explains the mayor.
The project has been recognised by the FEMP as an example of good urban practice.
