At the 5th Meeting of Organisations in the Soledad Elderly Care Network

The SHARE project in Fuenlabrada has been recognised by the Directorate-General for Care of the Elderly and Dependency of the Community of Madrid with a commendation in recognition of the good practices developed in the field of care for elderly people experiencing loneliness.

“The Department for the Elderly is working hard to tackle this issue, making progress on the Municipal Strategic Framework for Loneliness from a preventive, community-based and strategic perspective, based on rigorous diagnostic analysis, with the SHARE Project serving as a response to situations of loneliness,” explains Councillor Ana Pérez.

The call for ‘Effective Innovative Experiences in Caring for Older People Experiencing Loneliness’ by the Network for the Care of Older People Experiencing Loneliness aimed to recognise projects that challenge traditional models of social intervention with older people.

In this regard, the SHARE project aims to enable older people in the city to continue living independently in homes with adapted, accessible spaces where they will receive care and services tailored to their needs. In turn, they will make their homes available to young people in the municipality through a system of rent-controlled tenancies, thereby fostering intergenerational cooperation.

This project is funded by the European Commission through the European Urban Initiative under the New European Bauhaus thematic area. In fact, Fuenlabrada is the only Spanish city, alongside Barcelona, to have secured European Commission funding for two innovation projects.
