  2. The musical ‘The Book of Mormon’ and ‘Malquerida’, starring Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, this weekend

As well as these two successful productions, there are Halloween parties to whet your appetite

A weekend marked by two major stage hits, ‘The Book of Mormon: The Musical’ and ‘Malquerida’, alongside several parties to mark the run-up to Halloween, including the traditional ‘Ghost Town’ in La Pollina.

‘The Book of Mormon’, the smash-hit musical, arrives in Fuenlabrada as part of its tour of major Spanish cities, having previously performed on Madrid’s Gran Vía.

The Tomás y Valiente Theatre is hosting this irreverent, funny and surprising satirical comedy today (8.00 pm), which has won over millions of audiences worldwide.
It recounts the adventures of two young Mormon missionaries in a remote Ugandan village where they discover that the locals have far more pressing concerns to deal with, resulting in a story brimming with humour, social commentary and unforgettable songs.

And on Sunday, ‘Malquerida’, a contemporary stage adaptation of Jacinto Benavente’s famous play, directed by Natalia Menéndez and starring Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. A rural family tragedy that unfolds following Acacia’s engagement to Faustino at Raimunda and Esteban’s estate. After the groom’s murder, a murky and forbidden web of passions, jealousy and violence is unravelled.

Once again this year, La Pollina will be the setting for ‘Pueblo fantasma’, the free family Halloween festival aimed at children and families, taking place on Saturday between 11.00 and 18.00. A spooky village where horror-themed scenes, workshops, performances and concerts will take place. But this won’t be the only horror-themed event; today there’s a party for teenagers at the Espacio Joven la Plaza, along with other activities.

Circo Abierto and Las Sin Sombreo

‘Ahora’ is the show we can see this afternoon at the Josep Carreras Theatre as part of the Circo Abierto programme. A contemporary circus featuring performances that blend various artistic disciplines.

Las Sin Sombrero, those female writers who, as part of the Generation of ’27, were never recognised, defied the norms and strolled through Madrid without covering their heads with the obligatory hat. This is a musical tribute created by Paco Damas, based on poems and texts by these female writers, including Maruja Mallo, Rosa Chacel, María Zambrano and Josefina de la Torre… It will take place this afternoon at the 8 de Marzo Centre at 7.00 pm. Free admission.

Full details of these and other weekend activities can be found on the Events page of the council’s website.
