Up to 38 roadworks projects will be carried out on streets, avenues and roundabouts, with 1.8 million euros earmarked for this purpose

 The City Council is launching its road resurfacing programme tomorrow, the 20th, with the aim of improving the surface of many of the municipality’s roads. The works will involve milling and resurfacing more than 110,000 m² of public roads, representing around 9 linear kilometres of streets, spread across the city’s six districts.

In total, 38 projects will be carried out with a budget of 1.8 million euros on roads such as Camino del Molino, Calle Galicia, Grecia, Murcia, Luis Sauquillo and Calle de Andalucía. The works range from inter-district roads to local streets, including the repair of damaged roundabouts and the complete repainting of road markings and kerbs.

This brings to a close previous campaigns carried out on streets such as Hispanidad, Alemania and Holanda, as well as Fuentevaqueros, Oriente, San Andrés and Húmera, amongst others. 

The total cost of these most recent works will amount to 2.6 million euros, excluding works that the City Council has been carrying out on other streets, through comprehensive refurbishments or infrastructure upgrades, such as the underpass on Calle de Móstoles, Calle Federica Montseny, Calle Leganés and the radial road, amongst others.

As part of the City Council’s efforts to promote the circular economy, materials used for resurfacing will include recycled products derived from the shredding of end-of-life tyres. These components not only provide greater strength and elasticity to the asphalt surfaces but also improve noise reduction when vehicles pass over them and extend the lifespan of the works.

Traffic disruptions in El Naranjo

Furthermore, as a result of the resurfacing works, there will be a series of traffic closures in the El Naranjo neighbourhood, specifically on Calle Galicia and at the roundabout with Calle Móstoles. On 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 31 August, as well as on 1 September, traffic will be halted and parking will be prohibited on Calle Galicia; the parking ban will remain in place until 2 September. In addition, on 24 and 27 August, traffic will be blocked at the roundabout where Calle Galicia meets Calle Móstoles. 

Public bus services will also be affected.
