In a motion, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting their rights, autonomy and quality of life
The Fuenlabrada Town Council plenary session has approved, on the initiative of the PSOE and with votes in favour from xxx, against xxx and with xxxx abstaining, a motion which recognises the contribution made by older people to the development of Fuenlabrada, whilst supporting their rights and expressing its commitment to continuing to work towards improving the quality of life of this group.
Furthermore, it urges the Community of Madrid to strengthen care services for those in need of support and to promote personal independence, by eliminating waiting lists and increasing the level of benefits for care provided within the family environment. Similarly, it calls on the Regional Government to reduce the waiting time to below the 180 days stipulated by law before they receive the benefit.
In the motion, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting the rights, autonomy, social participation and quality of life of older people, by strengthening the resources and services that enable them to remain in their familiar surroundings.
It will also continue to strengthen, as explained in the approved text, programmes aimed at preventing and detecting situations of unwanted loneliness, isolation and vulnerability, by promoting neighbourhood and community networks that encourage support for and the participation of older people.
The motion recognises “the vital contribution that millions of older people make every day to our families, neighbourhoods and communities”. It states that “through their effort, hard work and commitment, they have helped to transform a city (Fuenlabrada) which, in just a few decades, has gone from being a small town to becoming a major city”.
