On 2 October, a manifesto will be read out and there will be a ceremony to recognise organisations for older people and the Participation Council
1,200 older people will take part in the cultural, sporting and intergenerational activities and gatherings organised by Fuenlabrada Town Council through its Department for Older People to mark the International Day of Older Persons.
The programme runs from 28 September to 4 October as part of Older People’s Week and features a wide range of activities across all centres. These include a variety of initiatives that promote active and healthy ageing, helping to prevent unwanted loneliness and fostering a sense of belonging to society through intergenerational activities. There will also be opportunities for creativity, as well as physical and emotional wellbeing.
The councillor responsible for this area, Ana María Pérez Santiago, has stated that the ultimate aim of this Week, whose slogan is ‘For an active life with rights and without labels’, is “to promote active ageing, social cohesion and recognition of older people in Fuenlabrada”. The councillor has stated that 1,200 people take part in the activities organised by the council department throughout the year.
On 1 October – International Day of Older Persons – there will be a tribute event to recognise the lives and work of these people. It will take place at the Tomás y Valiente Theatre and will conclude with a flamenco zarzuela performance.
